Susan graduated from The Queen’s College, Glasgow in Scotland with a B.Sc. degree (with commendation) in Physiotherapy. Over the many years since, Susan has developed her knowledge and expertise in various areas of physiotherapy through clinical experience, numerous post-graduate courses, professional certifications. Susan has taught UBC under-graduate physiotherapy students and has travelled extensively internationally (Canada, USA, UK, Netherlands and Asia) teaching post-graduate physiotherapy courses.

Susan’s physiotherapy practice incorporates manual therapy (joint mobilization, manipulation, soft-tissue and myofascial techniques). She is a certified practitioner of Intra-Muscular Stimulation (Gunn IMS or dry needling) which is an effective treatment for chronic pain. She is a certification course instructor in Personalized Blood Flow Restricted Rehabilitation (PBFR) - an innovative method of achieving enhanced strengthening and injury repair benefits in rehabilitation as well as enhanced performance in recreational and elite athletes. Her sessions include specific exercise prescription and training; posture and movement analysis. While well versed in addressing all kinds of injuries and conditions that typically present in a physiotherapy clinic, there are a few areas that are of particular focus in her practice:

*pelvic and lower back instability and re-alignment, using manual therapy and pressure bio-feedback to recruit and re-train specific core muscles.

*post-mastectomy rehabilitative care to patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Susan assists patients throughout the various stages of treatment and breast reconstruction surgeries to restore good posture, shoulder movement, strength and function, alleviate pain and reduce fibrotic adhesions or cording to help prevent lymphedema and a return to normal activity.

*women’s health issues related to pregnancy, injury, menopause or hormonal changes including pre and postpartum urinary incontinence.

*personalized blood flow restricted rehabilitation (PBFR). Susan is a certification course instructor in the clinical application of PBFR. PBFR utilizes a personalized medical tourniquet system (FDA class 1 approved medical device) during exercise training. This unique method of rehabilitation results in strength gains and muscle hypertrophy that can usually only be attributed to high intensity strength training. However these benefits (and other injury repair benefits) are achieved instead with low intensity exercise, thereby protecting the injured area from the harmful strain of heavier loading as it heals. This safe and exciting new form of rehabilitation benefits all conditions related to sports medicine and post-surgical orthopaedics.

In her free time, Susan enjoys family time and trying to keep up with her two teenage boys (no easy task!). She loves hiking the North Shore trails, running the sea wall, skiing, dancing, music and hanging out with friends.

Cherry is a Registered Acupuncturist in Vancouver BC with a doctorate degree in acupuncture. She is also a registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner in Hong Kong for over 10 years.

Raised in a family with generations of medical background, she has extensive exposure to both traditional Chinese and Western medicines.

She focuses on helping individuals restore physical balance, realign body structure and recover from other chronic and systemic conditions so that they can enjoy life with improved mobility, flexibility and overall wellness.

If you have symptoms and conditions that have bothered you for years and have not been relieved, or you are looking to build a better balance in body structure, come and see Cherry.

More than pain management, Cherry uses acupuncture to relieve blockages and misalignments that are closely related to a diverse range of dermatological, digestive, gynecological, immunological, neurological, respiratory, sleep and mood disorders.

Her first encounter with acupuncture was at birth when her mother had prolonged difficulties in delivering her to life. Her father named her Cherry, short for the cherry blossom symbolizing rebirth and resilience.

To Cherry, healing is about empowering people for a second wind. How we perceive the root cause makes all the difference in treatment.

Acupuncture has also empowered Cherry’s own recovery. She knows well first-hand how it feels to be woken up to pain and constrained in daily activities.

Enlightened by the process of healing, she sees the human body as a river: smooth flow enhances vitality whereas stagnant flow creates blockages. Most tension, pain and degeneration are rooted in structural misalignment and blockages. When the human body has restored supply of blood and nurturing energies, it will start its own healing process.

Most patients came to Cherry with a complex mix of symptoms involving different parts of the body and systemic disorders. Seeing the body as interconnected, she takes the time to assess the whole body and trace the seemingly unrelated symptoms to the root.

With her delicate needling and palpation techniques, she tailors effective treatment for individuals to restore balance and mobility for lasting wellness, from head to toe.
